HYPER PURE SILICON
In a recent telephone conversation with Mr. McCorkle regarding
promotion of pure silicon among manufacturers of electronic equip-
ment, we decided that such a program should be prefaced by a brief
survey of the patent situation. We have a patent application filed
on the preparation of the material itself and it appears that if any
protection can be granted, we will get it. However, we have no ap-
plications on equipment in which silicon is used.
It is reasonable to assume that development of crystal rectifiers
will be adequately covered by patents assigned to the U. S. Govern-
ment since the major research was done on O.S.R.D. funds. Dr. McKinney
has agreed to look into this matter, particularly with reference to
any patents assigned to private companies.
As soon as we have reviewed Dr. McKinney's findings, we will
proceed to line up a few representative manufacturers for interviews.
