1. ACE ASSOCIATION FOR CONTEMPORARY ELECTRONICS
I have difficulty in understanding the need for an additional trade association,

In addition to the settlement between Garrett and American Microsystems, a
settlement has also been reached between Raytheon and Intersil with respect to a
3. MOTOROLA -AUSTIN
Motorola's entry into the add-in memory market is unexpected, especially with
the philosophy of competing with customers such as DEC and Data General, but not
IBM. One would expect such an announcement from corporate sources, not from the
local manager in Austin.
While it appears that Motorola top management has gained some confidence
in the semiconductor division because of the total division's turn around during
the last quarter, this optimistic attitude does not prevail at the working level
in the integrated circuit groups at Motorola. Most of the groups are still
fairly disheartened, and it looks like whoever takes over the top spot at
Motorola integrated circuits will have a long, long way to go to restore the
stature of Motorola in the IC field.
4. LOW COST WATCHES
ICE has instituted a major study regarding the $19.95 and other electronic
watches. Gordon Ness is helping our staff member, Dick Walton, in this area.
Supertex is one of several new start-ups getting going in the integrated circuit
industry. It now appears possible to get money, and ICE is currently working
with two start-ups and one acquisition in MOS. Overall, it appears that
investor interest in integrated circuit companies has increased substantially in
