| Germanium Crystal - 1957 TI number: G00299 This is an experimental crystal grown in about 1957. The object was to grow the largest possible diameter single crystal from a molten quantity then limited in amount by the available equipment capacity. The object of this experimental work done by Dr. Walt Runyan was a slice of single crystal semiconductor material for use as a lens for infrared sensing equipment. The size of the available crystal pullers and heating equipment limited the volume of charge that could be handled. See related material for additional experimental results.
